Matthew Lowe suffered a horrible accident and injuries when he was dragged through a machine for processing massive steel beams at the Compass Engineering facility in Barugh Green, Barnsley, in December 2008.
Matthew was dragged through a machine for processing big steel beams at the factory in December 2008, and Compass Engineering Ltd and Kaltenbach Ltd were convicted.
After being dragged through a gap little bigger than a CD case, Matthew Lowe is lucky to be alive.
What Happened To Matthew Lowe?
In December 2008, Matthew Lowe was dragged through a five-inch gap in a steel milling machine.
At the Compass Engineering facility in Barnsley, northern England, he was caught by a high-powered conveyor system and squeezed into a five-inch opening between his shoulders and his feet.
He fractured both hips, his right arm, and many ribs after breaking his back, punctured his stomach and intestines, shattered his pelvic, and destroyed his pelvis.
After a worker miraculously survived being dragged through a five-inch opening in a machine, two companies have pleaded guilty to violating health and safety standards.
Lowe is now undergoing training to become a Compass site supervisor.
His employer, as well as the German firm that installed the conveyor system, will appear before Barnsley magistrates on safety charges.
Matthew Lowe Luckily Survived After Accident
Matthew Lowe is lucky to be alive after being dragged through a gap little bigger than a CD case.
When the accident occurred, Lowe was working as a welder at Compass Engineering near his home in Barnsley.
His clothes got caught in a conveyor that transported metal into the factory, and he was dragged sideways towards the machinery.
Lowe’s only visible injury now is a weaker right arm, after six operations following the December 2008 incident.
Lowe had only been working on the machine for a few days and was still learning how to operate it when the accident occurred, but he survived and went back to work to retrain in a different position.
Matthew Lowe Lawsuit And Compensation
After a man was dragged through a 5inh (13cm) gap in machinery, two companies were fined a total of £75,000 each.
During the incident at Compass Engineering in Barnsley in December 2008, Matthew Lowe, 25, shattered his back in two places.
The company was fined £45,000 by Sheffield Crown Court for a health and safety violation.
Kaltenbach, the business responsible for supplying and commissioning the machine, was fined £30,000.
At a previous appearance at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, both companies confessed to one charge of violating the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Both companies expressed regret for the accident and stated that health and safety were top priorities.
Since the disaster, £55,000 has been spent on safety improvements for the machine, according to the court.
