John is an NFL wide receiver for the Houston Texans. He joined the team in 2022. He was drafted as a 2nd rounder.

Joyce had met Metchie Sr in Taiwan when he had come to the country looking for employment opportunities. Their meeting soon blossomed into a romantic relationship.
The senior John and Joyce established their residence in Brampton, Ontario. The household had initially moved from Taiwan, where Metchie III was born, and then went to Ghana. They ultimately settled in Canada for better education opportunities for their kids.
As a Canadian, he did not gain interest in the national sport, hockey, and instead chose the gridiron football route.
John had traveled to his mother and father hometown
John had traveled to his guardians’ birthplace in Taiwan and Ghana.
As a high school student, John went to Taiwan to visit Joyce’s side of relatives, who were all Taiwanese. John explained how it was surreal even if he already had Taiwanese heritage. He considered meeting them a cool experience.
John also traveled to his father’s birthplace Ghana. Per the Andscape, John did not know that there would be so many stray dogs in his Ghanaian neighborhood. He expressed how he always had to sprint in his car before the dogs could come anywhere near him.
After moving to Canada in 2006, Metchie got into sports from an early age due to his mother’s assistance. Joyce would involve him in soccer and lacrosse programs.

John Metchie brother Royce Metchie plays as a Defensive end for the Toronto Argonauts.
Originally drafted by the Calgary Stampedes as the 3rd rounder. He joined the team in 2018 and played until the 2021 season.
He has played 17 games and made 72 tackles for the Argonauts. He won the Grey Cup in the 2022 season. On February 4, 2023, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club released the good news that Royce had made contract extensions with the team till 2024.
Royce is the elder sibling who was born in September 1996. Unlike John’s birthplace, he was born in Lagos, Nigeria. However, he also spent time in Taiwan and Ghana before settling in Canada.

On February 10, 2023, the brothers traveled to Lima, Peru, to enjoy their vacation. Royce highlighted the trip on his Instagram.
They relished visiting the La Merced Square and Galleries San Agustin. One user even humorously commented that their 1st day looked like the whole trip. Jamar Wall, the former Houston Texans defensive end, also remarked that their travel was lit.
