Who Was Elena Fanchini? Skier Who Gave Up Winter Olympics Dream To Battle Cancer Dies At 37

At the age of 37, ELENA FANCHINI, an inspirational skier whose career had to be cut short after receiving a cancer diagnosis, went suddenly. The Italian athlete passed away at her house in Solato, Brescia following a protracted illness.

Fanchini had a fantastic skiing career that includes appearances at three Olympic Games and six World Cup competitions. She won two World Cup races and the 2005 world silver medal in the downhill competition.

However, she was forced to skip the PyeongChang Olympics in 2018 while receiving cancer treatment. Her attempt to make a comeback in 2019 ended in a devastating injury when she broke her fibula.

She eventually released an emotional video in which she was forced to give up skiing as a result of this. In August of last year, Fanchini’s sickness flared up once more, and she unfortunately passed away on the same day that Italian Marta Bassino won the Super-G world gold.

Federica Brignone, a different ex-teammate of Fanchini’s, won the combined. The favorite to win Saturday’s downhill competition, Sofia Goggia, dedicated her triumph in Cortina d’Ampezzo to Fanchini last month.
