How do you put down recycled asphalt?
- Tamp down the surface of the asphalt with a hand tamper. Move across the entire area and use the tamper to hit every square inch with solid force to compact the layer of asphalt.
- Roll over the asphalt layer with a steam roller.
- Apply a commercial-grade asphalt seal-coat product, using a brush.
How well does recycled asphalt hold up?
It has good bonding qualities.
Tar is still present in recycled asphalt. This means that recycled asphalt will bond better than loose driveway products and materials. When wet and compacted, recycled asphalt will bond easily. This will produce a semi-permanent driveway, which keeps dust and dirt in place.
How long does it take for recycled asphalt to harden?
After laying hot mix asphalt, it takes about 30 days to cure. After curing, it should be sealed with an asphalt sealer.
Is crushed asphalt cheaper than gravel?
Asphalt driveways typically cost $2 – $5 per sq foot to install – more than gravel, but much less than many other options. Long lifespan.
What is asphalt rejuvenator?
An asphalt rejuvenator penetrates the asphalt well below the surface to chemically revitalize and protect the asphalt binder maltenes. This means rejuvenators restore the components of asphalt lost in the aging process and are designed to penetrate, flux and co-mingle with the existing asphalt binder.
What is a rejuvenator?
Rejuvenators are products designed to restore original properties to aged (oxidized) asphalt binders by restoring the original ratio of asphaltenes to maltenes. Many rejuvenators are proprietary, making it difficult to offer a good generic description.
