Zoleka Mandela was the daughter of Zindzi Mandela and Zwelibanzi Hlongwane. Her mother was the second child and eldest daughter of Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela. Her father was a South African activist and businessman.

Zoleka’s parents met in the early 1980s while they were both students at the University of Fort Hare. They married in 1980 and had four children together: Zoleka, Zondwa, Bambatha, and Zwelabo.

Zoleka’s parents were both deeply involved in the anti-apartheid movement. Her father was a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and was imprisoned for his activism on several occasions. Her mother was a vocal critic of the apartheid regime and was also imprisoned several times.

Despite the challenges they faced, Zoleka’s parents were determined to provide their children with a good life. They raised them to be proud of their heritage and to stand up for what they believed in.
