Yandy Smith Not Married | Marriage

Over the last few weeks the Internet has been buzzing over the news that the stars of VH1’s Love and Hip Hop, Harris and Mendeecees Harris, are not legally husband and wife. Yes, this is despite 2015’s supersize wedding special and Yandy’s incessant use of the word “wife” to verbally chin check her hubby’s exes (and mothers of his two oldest sons), Samantha Wallace and Erika DeShazo.

Apparently, after the beautiful wedding, Yandy never filed the legal documentation to finalize her union with Mendeecees with the government. In the past, there were rumors that Yandy failed to sign on the dotted line because she didn’t want to be obligated to pay child support to her partner’s exes while he served close to a decade in prison.

On Monday night’s episode, the reality star shared that she didn’t want to be legally obligated to pay for any of Mendeecees’ debts — including the restitution he has to provide the government for his criminal conviction.

In another shocker, Mendeecees, who is currently in prison, was under the impression that his wife filed their paperwork after his criminal case was closed last year, the assumption being that she would not be responsible for any payments since his restitution would be considered a prior debt. The million dollar question is whether Yandy’s behavior was shady or smart? In truth, it’s a bit of both.

Yandy Smith Interview

Yandy Stops By The Breakfast Club to Reveal That Mendeecees Will Be Home Sooner Than We Thought

Updated on: 30 November 2018.

For the past few years, Yandy Smith-Harris has been busy as an entrepreneur and mother. It hasn’t been easy holding down the fort alone while her husband Mendeecees Harris serves his prison sentence. But her one-woman show isn’t going to last much longer because, according to a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Mendeecees will be home very soon.

Despite reports that his request for reduced time was denied by the judge, Yandy claims he’ll be a free man in 2019.

“He’ll be home next year. Collectively [he’s been away] almost five years…It’s a drop in the bucket to a lifetime you have to spend together.”

Yandy also got emotional when discussing her foster daughter Infinity. Back in August, the reality star revealed that she’d started the process of legally adopting her. While the process hasn’t yet been finalized, Yandy reveals that she was deeply hurt by online trolls claiming she was only taking Infinity in to gain clout. At one point, she even breaks down in tears over the vicious comments.

“That hurts me to my core [when people said this was a publicity stunt.] My children are babies. You think I’m gonna put them in danger because I want a publicity stunt? This isn’t something that stops when the cameras stop. At 5am, I take her to school. I have ACS [Administration for Children’s Services] on my back. Just thinking about it makes me emotional [sobs]. She has to see these comments, and I never want her to feel like I’m doing this because of a storyline.”

Another tidbit from the interview is Yandy’s last season’s confrontations with Erika and Samantha, the mothers of Mendeecees’s other sons. She says that although she tries to keep it cool, calm and collected on screen to protect her brand, the struggle to keep the children together took her out of her element…and almost made her quit the show.
“That whole baby mama season really took me out of my character. I really can’t play too much when it comes to my kids and my man. It’s touchy for me. I get a little different and the Grant Projects come out of me. But every night when I laid down I was hurt. I wanted to off camera call them and be like, ’can we just get along and bring the kids together?’ But because it was TV, I felt like [they] might record my conversation or post this on Instagram.”

True Love: Yandy Smith Details The Hardest Part About Being Away From Mendeecees

Updated on: 8 November 2018.

Love & Hip Hop star Yandy Smith recently revealed in an interview what the most difficult part of being away from her incarcerated husband, Mendeecees Harris, is, and her response proves one thing: she fiercely loves this man.

At the top of 2018, Harris pleaded guilty to a drug-trafficking conspiracy that involved drugs being transported from New York City to the Rochester region. Despite his attorneys arguing that he played a “minor role” in the drug scheme, he was still sentenced to prison and eventually agreed to serve eight years at his plea.

Smith spoke with VH1 about how the ordeal affected her and their marriage.

“The season I learned the most was also the most therapeutic season for me and it was when we were hit with some really hard family times,” she said. “Having to say goodbye to my husband for the first time was the hardest.”

Above all, she admitted that she ultimately learned that her love for him knows no bounds.

“I learned how much I love him and how much I needed him and how much I could not live without him and everyday I had to learn how it was only temporary,” she added.
