Iszac Henig, a Yale transgender swimmer who secured victory in the 100-yard freestyle stole the show from Lia Thomas, who had won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, writes Fox News.

Henig has been a member of Yale’s women’s team for three years and chose to postpone his hormone transition, allowing him to stay on the team. Then, in April 2021, he came out to his coaches and teammates.

In July, he shared his story in the New York Times. He said that coming out as a transgender put him in a difficult position as an athlete. He had two choices at that time, writes Daily Mail.

One is that he could start adjusting his hormones to be more in tune with himself, or he could wait, socially transition, and continue competing on a women’s swim team. He chose the latter option.

He shared that he cherish his contributions to the team and understand that his masculinity isn’t dependent on whether or not he has more testosterone in his blood.

He added that he would try to remember that when he put on the women’s swimsuit for the competition and be reminded of a self he no longer feels related to.

Iszac Henig Win Over Lia Thomas Sparks The Previous Controversy

As Iszac Henig has secured victory in the 100-yard freestyle, stealing the show from Lia Thomas, it has given fire to the previous controversy. As a result, Lia Thomas became a hot topic of discussion last year.

The issue surfaced when University of Pennsylvania senior Lia Thomas set new records in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles and elite performance in the 1650 freestyle.

Because of Thomas’s status as a transgender athlete, such outstanding performances became controversial. She was a Penn men’s team member for three years before finishing the one-year “testosterone suppression therapy” required to compete as a female.

The recent victory of Iszac Hening has once again given an excuse for people to dig over Lia’s controversy.
