What Is The XFL Draft?

XFL rookie draft is the procedure to fill up the team rosters from the pool of befitting newcomer footballers who were not drafted in the NFL.

In the 2023 XFL Draft, 1,700 names were listed in the pool. Among them, only 528 were chosen by the eight teams.

It ran from 15th to 17th November 2022. It was carried out in seven phases. The first was called Phase 0, where the starting Quarterbacks were allotted to the teams. It consisted of two rounds, meaning two QBs for each franchise.

Houston Roughnecks were the only group who got three QBs. They ended up with Kaleb Eleby, Brandon Silvers, and Kure Benkert.

Likewise, Day 2 started with skill player selection. The Offensive set of athletes was picked by franchises over 11 rounds, followed by defensive backs, the defensive front seven, and offensive linemen.

On the third day, special teams and open draft, consisting of any position, were held gradually. The Special team selection only went over 3 cycles.

Unlike NFL Draft, the entire process is finalized as per the position in the field. The snake format is followed. The selection number is randomly assigned and is reversed between the odd and even cycles.

Abram Smith was the first overall pick. D.C. Defenders drafted him.
