After his high school basketball stint at East Atlanta High, Anderson continued his basketball career at the University of Georgia, playing for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1984 to 1988. Career

Following his college basketball tenure at the University of Georgia, Anderson entered the NBA scene after being chosen by the San Antonio Spurs as the 10th overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft. His stellar performance earned him a spot on the 1989 NBA All-Rookie Team. Anderson showcased his skills during the 1990 NBA Playoffs, achieving career-high averages of 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. Despite the Spurs advancing past the Denver Nuggets in the first round, they eventually fell to the Portland Trail Blazers in a hard-fought seven-game playoff series.

Anderson continued to contribute to the Spurs until the 1994–95 season. He then played for the Toronto Raptors during the 1995–96 season after being selected in the 1995 expansion draft. Additionally, he had a stint with the New York Knicks in the same season. Moving to the 1996–97 season, Anderson joined Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus in the Greek Basket League and also played with the NBA’s Miami Heat.
