Why do humans get electrocuted on power lines?
Why don’t birds and squirrels get electrocuted on power lines?

Why does a bird sitting on a bare power line not get a shock while a person touching the same line gets a fatal shock?
When a bird sits on a power line, there is no circuit completed. that is why it does not get a shock. If it sits on two wires (or one wire and a ground source) at the same time, an electrical circuit would be completed, and the resulting surge of current through its body would electrocute him.

Why can birds sit on power lines and not humans?
Birds are able to sit on electrical power lines because the electrical current essentially ignores the bird’s presence and continues to travel through the wire instead of through the bird’s body. A bird’s body is not a good conductor of electricity. … In electrical power lines, electricity flows along copper wires.

Can birds land on power lines?
Birds can sit on power lines and not get electric shocks because the electricity is always looking for a way to get to the ground. The birds are not touching the ground or anything in contact with the ground, so the electricity will stay in the power line.
Why do birds sit on high wires?
Because power lines are slightly warmer, these make an ideal perching place for birds to just sit and conserve their energy. Power lines are slightly warmer than the surrounding air because of the electricity that flows through them.
