The ‘ohana of Tre’ Evans-Dumaran confirmed Firefighter Tre’s passing this morning, Saturday, Feb. 4, according to a statement from Maui County.
Tre’ Evans-Dumaran, 24, was assisting residents on the island on Jan. 27 when he was swept away. He was eventually found where the drain ended 800 yards away near the shoreline at Kulanihakoi Street, according to a statement from the authorities.
According to a news release from the office of Hawaii Governor Josh Green, a flood warning was in effect for Maui at the time due to “hazardous weather” that included heavy rain and forced road closures.
Prior to his death on Saturday, Evans-Dumaran had been in critical condition at Maui Memorial Medical Center and was “slowly making positive and promising signs of rehabilitation.”
When attending to emergency calls during Kihei’s flash floods, Tre, 24, was dragged out to sea.
The Tre’s ‘ohana received the condolences of Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. Officials from Maui County issued remarks today to celebrate Tre’s contributions and memories.
“We have all experienced the true meaning of aloha, and it is the difference-maker. Tre cherished his job as a firefighter and the people he assisted. Because he was so eager to help others, serving the community came naturally to him, Ventura continued.
“The turn of events has especially upset us. The information devastated my heart. Our emergency responders risk their lives every day in order to assist others and protect the community they serve.
The family asks for discretion at this time.
