Linda Benzel, a news anchor for both 9News, is being reported to have passed away at the age of 72. In the aftermath of her death, social media has been swamped with tributes.
Linda Benzel was a well-known journalist and writer who won multiple Emmys and other journalistic awards, as well as the admiration and respect of her peers and contemporaries.
In Denver, she served as an anchor for both Channel 9 and Channel 4.
Sadly, on October 27, 2021, she passed away. She is survived by her husband Jess Stockwell and sister Marie Sharon Martinelli of Richmond VA.
Who Was Linda Benzel?
Linda Benzel was a journalist from Denver, Colorado, who was born on November 15, 1948, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Stanley Karcz (father) and Marie Gillespie (mother).
Linda began her television career as a fill-in ‘on air’ anchor and reporter in Buffalo, New York. She was successful, and she was hired as a full-time on-air anchor/reporter by a station in Louisville, Kentucky.
Later, she moved to Denver from Louisville and worked for 9 News and then News 4 Colorado.
Throughout her time in television created multiple Emmy award-winning stories and programs, including ‘Promises in the Mist.’ It’s a documentary series on the predicament of Rwanda’s mountain gorillas.
She was also a household name and local celebrity for everyone living in Denver in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
In 2001, Benzel moved to Estill Springs, TN. where she worked part-time as a reporter for the local newspaper. Before retiring in 2010 to read books and play with her dogs, she planned, constructed, and consulted on the Tullahoma Utilities Board’s community access station.
Linda Benzel Death Cause And Obituary
The cause behind Linda Benzel’s death is due to many seizures and strokes she experienced while getting Hospice care at home.
Her husband claims she has had many strokes/seizures over the previous 18 months.
She requested her husband to pledge not to take her back to any hospital after the fourth round of strokes in September 2021. She lost pieces of herself with each round of seizures and strokes, yet she persevered with grace and dignity.
On Wednesday, October 2021, she had multiple seizures and strokes resulting in her drifting into a coma. She died at home on October 27, 2021.
