Who was Laird Koenig? American Author and Screenwriter Dead at 95

Laird Koenig was an American author and screenwriter who was known for being prominent in the entertainment industry from the ’60s up until the 90s. Most of his books were turned into movies due to their sensationalism.

He co-wrote the screenplay for The Cat (1966), starring Roger Perry and Peggy Ann Garner, then landed on Broadway in 1969 with The Dozens. The play lasted just four performances, however, it featured Al Freeman Jr., Morgan Freeman, and Paula Kelly.

Koenig died at age 95 from natural causes. His death occurred on June 30, 2023, in Santa Barbara. He co-wrote the 1970 novel, The Children Are Watching with Dixon. The show was turned into the French film Attention Les Enfants Regardent (1978) and starred Delon.

His first book as a solo writer dubbed The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane was released in 1974. He also wrote a few episodes of Flipper alongside Dixon.  They created seven episodes of the adventure series during the show’s three seasons from 1964 to 1967, and on one 1970 installment of another NBC Show, The High Chaparral.
