David Hanna from Banbridge suffered an untimely death following an accident in a hotel pool in Spain.
A string of tragedies has cursed Northern Ireland as citizens lose their lives on holiday in foreign lands. This time, a dad of three died by drowning in Majorca.
David Hanna, a well-known person in Banbdrige, passed away in a hotel pool. His daughter shared the unfortunate news on Monday.
Banbridge Tragedy: David Hanna Accident And Death In A Hotel Pool
Tragedy has struck Banbridge as David Hanna lost his life in an accident.
The incident occurred at Globales Palmanova hotel, a four-star hospitality business in Majorca, Spain. The Banbridge resident had visited the country for a holiday getaway.
David Hanna’s death was reportedly caused by drowning in the hotel’s pool.
Around 4:30 pm on Sunday, visitors raised an alert of a drowning man in the hotel pool. Though the lifesavers immediately pulled him out, the rescue team could not resuscitate him through CPR.
The man, who was later identified as David Hanna, was pronounced dead on the scene. The authorities then took his body for a post-moretem examination.
Meanwhile, Guardia Civil officers are set to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter. They have not ruled out the possibility of foul play before presenting the full report to the judge.
David Hanna Co Down Man Obituary
David Hanna was a respectable man in Co Down, Banbridge. As a fact, he was employed as a caretaker at Banbridge Academy.
Many have shared David Hanna’s obituary on Twitter and Facebook following his departure.
David’s daughter, Rachel Hanna expressed her emotions on Facebook as she wrote, “My heart is in a million pieces and I can’t believe I’m writing this post… on the first day of my dad’s well-deserved holiday in Majorca, he passed away due to a tragic accident.” She continued, “My heart hurts so much, and I still can’t believe this has happened it doesn’t feel real.”
Banbridge Academy Principal, Robin McLaughlin, described David as a much-respected member of the caretaking team. He cited the late father as a “long-serving and friendly member of the team.”
A past student of Newry High School, Hanna was 53 years old in age.

Hanna was a father of three. He is now survived by his children, Sophie, Jake, and Rachel.
The family is still processing the tragic incident. Furthermore, they will have to bear additional trouble flying David’s remains back home. It will be best to provide them with much-needed privacy right now.
David’s death isn’t the first unfortunate incident in Majorca this year. Last month, six-year-old Corey Aughey from Northern Ireland passed away after drowning in a pool in the city.
Similar to David, Aughey had also visited Majorca on a family trip. Though he was put in ICU for three days, he took his last breath in the hospital.
Likewise, another Irish man, Damian Casey, died at a friend’s wedding in Spain on June 17, 2022. The 29 years old was the captain of Tyrone GAA hurling team.
