What Happened At The Interstate 495 in Andover?
The entire story began when a state police sergeant observed a BMW driven by Miele parked outside the Digital Federal Credit Union on Route 28 in Metheun around 7 p.m. As the man was connected with multiple bank robberies in southeastern Massachusetts, a police alert was immediately issued after Anthony was spotted at the site.
As soon as the sergeant followed him in an unmarked cruiser, Miele began to drive away. Shortly after, the sergeant and another state police trooper assisting him attempted to stop Miele’s BMW, but he refused and fled down several side streets and onto Route 28 south.
The car continued south into Lawrence before entering I-495 south, with the two police cruisers still following. According to the police, Miele pulled into the grass median, reversed direction, and stopped around 7:10 p.m., shortly after crossing into Andover on I-495.
When the police troopers finally approached Anthony’s car, they discovered him holding a gun to his head. Afterward, police set up a perimeter and summoned additional resources, including a crisis negotiation unit.
As seen from aerial footage, several police vehicles were blocking traffic near Exit 40. Cops were seen with their guns drawn, focusing on a dark-colored sedan that had pulled over in the median near Interstate 93 and the Lawrence/Andover line.
