Amani Liaquat, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago, passed away at the age of 23.

We are deeply saddened to inform you that she died in the early hours of this morning at home (Monday 21st February).

Who Was Amani Liaquat Of Fight4Amani Campaign?

Amani Kiaqueat of the Fight4Amani campaign was a first-class honors law graduate who recently received a Master’s degree in Applied Social Welfare.

She was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) on her 22nd birthday in April 2020 after having a seizure at home.

It is the most common type of primary malignant brain tumor in adults, with a prognosis of 12 to 18 months.

Faced with extremely limited treatment options in the UK, Amani and her family turned to crowdfunding, and thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and their community, they were able to quickly raise funds of £100,000.

She shared that her tumor was inoperable and incurable due to its location and mutation. However, she is fortunate in that the funds raised will allow her to purchase a trial drug from Germany that has shown promising results for others with the same mutation as her, H3K27.

Amani was described as “an integral part of our #BrainTumorPetition and Stop the Devastation campaigns” by Brain Tumour Research.

She also participated in numerous fundraising and campaigning activities, such as organizing Luton’s first-ever Walk of Hope. And establishing the Fight4Hope fundraising group.

Amani’s story raises awareness of the fact that brain tumors kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

Regardless, only 1% of national cancer research funding has been dedicated to this devastating disease. Tragically, 88 percent of those diagnosed die within five years of being diagnosed.

We express our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. And hope that the government will increase funding and investment in the research that has been taking the lives of so many young people.
