Lockheed Martin serves as the prime contractor with a global supply chain of more than 1,900 companies based in the United States and in every nation acquiring the F-35.

The Air Force variant of the fighter, which Finland will be buying, is already the most reliable and maintainable tactical aircraft in the U.S. fleet, and its production cost is below the list price of any commercial jetliner.

The Navy only has one deployable F-35C squadron — Strike Fighter Squadron 147 “Argonauts” out of Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. The Navy’s other F-35C squadron, Strike Fighter Squadron 125, a training squadron, is also out of Lemoore.

They “will join the ‘Lions of the South’ squadron and boost the array of Adir jets to protect the skies of Israel,” the spokesperson said in a statement. With the new arrivals, Israel has 30 F-35 jets now. The jets are part of an acquisition of 50 F-35s. The first jets arrived in Israel in December 2016.

A major win for the F-35 and the United States

After what was described as a ‘comprehensive technical evaluation,’ Switzerland’s Federation Council has selected the F-35 on the basis that it offers ‘the highest overall benefit at the lowest overall cost.

One of the major disadvantages of India acquiring the F-35 to strengthen its China deterrence posture would be the hole it would burn in the pockets of the Indian defense budget.

Switzerland’s current air defense set-up will reach the end of its service life in 2030. A Swiss parliamentary committee said Tuesday it would probe the government’s decision to purchase 36 Lockheed Martin F-35A fighter jets to replace its aging fleet.

Switzerland said in June it would buy 36 F-35As in a $5.5 billion deal after an evaluation found it had “the highest overall benefit at the lowest overall cost”. That angered opponents, who have pledged a referendum to overturn what they dubbed an unnecessary “Ferrari” option.

Currently the Swiss air force has a peacetime strength of 1,600 career military and about 20,000 reservists on call. Its air defence consists of 30 McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornets and 53 Northrop F-5 Tiger IIs (110 purchased in 1978–85).

With more than 700 F-35s now delivered to U.S. and international operators, the impact of the global fleet is far reaching – significantly enhancing the allied joint force. As the F-35 fleet grows, so too does the alliance-based force needed to deter or defeat near-peer competitors.

Although, it’s very difficult to compare the two aircraft in every aspect, it’s easier to predict a winner in a possible dogfight. If the conflict happens within visual range (close combat), the Rafale would probably win as it’s more agile and has better maneuverability.

And the U.S. Navy’s F-35C jets cost $9.9 million annually—$2.4 million over budget.

While the F-35 fighter jet certainly can dogfight, a fact that is quite well known, there is much to be said about its sensor suite and computing technology. This technology may make it highly unlikely that an F-35 will be involved in a dogfight.

F-15EX Versus F-35

It is true that the F-35 is considered a far more capable multi-role aircraft, but simply put, the F-15EX will be able to do things the F-35 can’t. Key among them is to carry more weapons. The F-35 can only carry four bombs or missiles when operating in its low signature or stealth mode.

The F-22 Raptor is the oldest and most advanced fighter jets in the world. Developed by Lockheed Martin and Boeing for the USAF, the fighter jet is not for sale to other countries and was inducted by the US Air Force in 2005.
