Over 65 academic members at the University of Southern California have signed an open letter urging the university’s administration to “publicly and firmly rebuke a student for many nasty statements she made online earlier this year.” She said she wanted to “kill every motherf****** Zionist” in a tweet.
USC President Carol Folt, Provost Charles Zukoski, and Board of Trustees Chair Rick Caruso received the letter on December 1.
The faculty requested administrators to rebuke Yasmeen Mashayekh, a civil engineering student, and to disassociate USC from her hateful comments in the latest of a series of letters from numerous of the same signatories.
Following that, officials say the institution has made efforts, but many of the faculty members who signed the letter, as well as Mashayekh and her supporters, are unsatisfied with the administration’s reaction.
Who is Yasmeen Mashayekh?
Yasmeen Mashayekh is a civil engineering student at the University of Southern California. She was named as one of the school’s Leaders, Makers, and Dreamers for International Women’s Day this year.
Yasmeen is also the President of the school’s Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and a senator for the Viterbi School of Engineering’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.
Anti-Zionist Tweets: Is Yasmeen Mashayekh Arrested?
As of yet, no comment has been published on Yasmeen Mashayekh’s arrest. She sent out many nasty and anti-Semitic tweets in early 2021, including one that stated, ‘Death to Isreal and its b*tch the US.’
In another, she wrote, ‘I want to kill every motherf****** Zionist.’
She captioned other tweets portraying violence. ‘LMAOOOOO THEY DID THOUGH.’
Following that, in an Instagram post recognizing that the individual is a student, USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering wrote, ‘Even though the words at issue are legally permissible, they acknowledge they are troubling.’
In general, Yasmeen has spread antisemitism and violent anti-Zionist hate, asking for the destruction of Israel and the United States. She glorified terrorists and showed support for Hamas.
She has also incited hatred, demonized Israel, supported an anti-Israel agitator, and participated in anti-Israel agitation. She is a supporter of the BDS campaign (boycott, divestment, and sanctions).
