S Club 7 is a London-based British pop group formed by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and consists of Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens, and Tina Barrett. The band was formed in 1998 and grew to prominence after appearing in their own BBC television series, Miami 7.
Simon Fuller has stated that the idea for S Club 7 came to him the day after he was fired by the Spice Girls in November 1997, with the new group intended to represent a “continuation” of the former.
From among more than 10,000 applicants, he chose the group’s members through auditions; Rachel Stevens was the only participant who did not submit an application for consideration. Instead, she was urged to enter the studio to record a demo tape for Fuller by two producers from 19 Management.
Producers noticed Jo O’Meara and Paul Cattermole at the age of 19, and they both received audition requests. After The Stage published an ad about the auditions, Jon Lee, Hannah Spearritt, Tina Barrett, and Bradley McIntosh showed up. S Club 7 was established following some last-minute modifications, which included the expulsion of three founding members.
