Shelby Darrall’s new single, “Love Me When I’m Leavin’,” is premiering on People, and it’s the ultimate heartbreak anthem. And she is just 26 years old.
Shelby Darrall, 26, sings of a loved one who only misses her when she’s “gone” in the guitar-backed single, making the lyrics eerily familiar. Darrall describes the song’s inspiration as “the messiness of breakups.”
I don’t believe any relationship can end cleanly. It is good for you to quit cold turkey, but she doesn’t think most people have that kind of self-control, and she certainly doesn’t.
The country singer tells people that “Love Me When I’m Leaving” is about knowing you’re in a bad situation but convincing yourself it’s romantic, but there is a dilemma about who wants to stay with someone who wants them only when they leave? She went on to say that it’s not a rom-com, so for kids, it’s a red flag.
Shelby wanted to make sure the song wasn’t depressing when she was originally working on it, so she enlisted the help of Troy Verges and Jake Mitchell.
