Garth was working as a bouncer in the bar Tumbleweed Ballroom in Stillwater, and Sandy was involved in a fight with another woman in the bar. Brooks was summoned to separate the two women, and after the fight ended he took Sandy home. The two started dating shortly after the incident and their relationship eventually became more serious, and the two eventually married in 1986 – coincidentally, they had actually been born in the same hospital.
