After ten years in the country’s Federal Guard Service, Gavrilov was promoted to deputy chief of the National Guard in June, as per the unit’s webpage.

But, in the face of Ukrainian resolve, his Rosgvardia army has sustained enormous losses of life since invading Ukraine.

The military force was at the forefront of Russia’s initial attack on its eastern European neighbor, which Putin had anticipated would be completed in a matter of days.

However, three weeks later, Ukraine continues to maintain its ground, with Russia having failed to capture any significant city or important site.

Roman Gavrilov Arrested: Is He A Traitor?

As per investigative journalism outlet Bellingcat, reports of Roman Gavrilov’s arrest by the Russian Federation’s Federal Security Service (FSB) were revealed by three reliable sources.

However, the true reason for his reported dismissal remains unknown, and a Russian official has subsequently disputed that he was fired.

Two sources said he was arrested for ‘wasteful discarding of gasoline,’ while one said he was sacked over suspected military intel disclosures that ‘led to the loss of life.’

Besides, there appears to be no strong evidence that proves Roman is a traitor.

Where Is Roman Gavrilov Now After being sacked By Putin?

According to reports, Roman Gavrilov is in prison and has been sacked by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is clamping down on treachery among his ranks in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine.

Similarly, Alexander Khinshtein, a top United Russia official, claimed in a message on Telegram that despite his termination, news that Gavrilov had been detained were “absolutely incorrect.”

As Russian soldiers continue to attack Ukrainian citizens and push on Kyiv, Putin declared in a speech on Wednesday that his country would go through a “self-purification” of “traitors.”
