Willy Joseph Cancel was a former United States Marine from Orange County, New York. He was living in Tennessee and working as a correctional officer before he was sent to Ukraine by a private military contract firm.
Cancel was killed in Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. He was fighting alongside Ukrainian forces when he was killed and his body has not been retrieved yet. The group returned back when they were attacked leaving his body according to CNN.

Cabrera confirmed Willy chose to work for a private military contracting company on top of his full-time job as a corrections officer in Tennessee shortly before the war in Ukraine broke out at the end of February.
After the war broke within the Ukrainian borders, the company decided to send Willy to Ukraine along with other contractors.
According to CNN Rebeca said, he wanted to go over because he believed in what Ukraine was fighting for, and he wanted to be a part of it to contain it there so it didn’t come here, and that maybe our American soldiers wouldn’t have to be involved in it.
Much information about Rebeca’s personal life has not come to the surface yet but she would love to have her boy’s body back to bid him farewell for the last time.
