Her acting career started in 1982, when she was cast as Maureen in the television film “Parole”, and after a few minor roles in TV series, she was cast as Joanne in the TV series “St. Elsewhere” in 1986, then chosen for the role of Nancy Krieger Weston the following year in the TV romantic drama series “Thirtysomething” (1987-1991). The particular role brought her national popularity, and won her several awards, including a Golden Globe in the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, and also three Primetime Emmys, two for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and one in Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She continued quite successfully with her career following the end of the series, as she appeared in the award-winning drama film “Guilty by Suspicion” (1991), starring Robert De Niro and Annette Bening, then featured in the Academy Award- winning comedy “City Slickers”, with Billy Crystal, Jack Palance and Daniel Stern in the lead roles, and repeated her role in the sequel “City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold” in 1994, and meantime she starred in the television film “Taking Back My Life: The Nancy Ziegenmeyer Story” in 1992, and played Veronica in the comedy-drama film “Me and Veronica” (1993), next to Elizabeth McGovern, and Michael O’Keefe, which only increased her wealth.
