The National Park Service is investigating the event in collaboration with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

“Hikers are highly recommended to read the Hiking Tips page and check the Backcountry Updates and Closures website for current information on inner canyon conditions before venturing down the trail,” according to the statement.

The victim, Melanie Goodine of Ottawa, Ontario, was trekking out of the canyon after climbing the Colorado River earlier in the day, according to park officials.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, thus, no other information was offered. She is said to be 41 years old woman. Her family members have not come forward to share anything about her.
