The aviation regulator on Tuesday grounded two Jet Airways pilots for operating a Boeing with 142 passengers and eight crew members from Doha to Kochi with a nearly empty fuel tank.

According to The Times of India, the jet attempted to land six times in two different towns without success before touching down in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital.

The flight had just 270 kg of fuel left when it landed, which was barely enough to keep it airborne for three more minutes. This is in contravention of the requirement for 1,500 kg of fuel plus alternate fuel.
