Canadian politician Lisa Sarah MacCormack Raitt, better known as Lisa Raitt, was a federal Cabinet minister and member of Parliament.
Raitt is a member of the Conservative Party and began her political career by being elected to the House of Commons in the 2008 election, where she represented Halton.
Shortly after her election, then Prime Minister Stephen Harper named her minister of natural resources.
She held that role until 2010, when she became the minister of labor. In 2013, Raitt became the minister of transport, and she remained in the position until the Liberal Party defeated the Conservatives in the 2015 election.
In 2015, Raitt was re-elected in the newly formed electoral district or riding of Milton. Two years later, she contested the Conservative leadership in 2017 but lost to Andrew Scheer.
Still, Andrew Scheer made her Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party, both roles she would hold until her defeat in the 2019 election.
Raitt has since left politics and has been the vice chair of Global Investment Banking at the CIBC or Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
All told, these are the political positions that Lisa Raitt held:
- Member of Parliament for Halton from October 14, 2008, to October 19, 2015

Who Is Lisa Raitt’s Husband?
Former politician Lisa Raitt is married to her husband Bruce Wood, whom she wed in 2016.
Shortly before their marriage, in May 2016, Wood was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
He was the former Hamilton Port Authority CEO. He is among the five to six percent of patients who develop symptoms of Alzheimer’s under age 65.
Four months after his diagnosis, Raitt, and Wood married. They had been dating for a few years.
For each, it was their second marriage. The two suffered silently until Raitt revealed her husband’s condition in 2020.
According to the former politician, when she found out about Wood’s diagnosis, she cried in bed for four days and then set her mind on their future.
Raitt has been caring for her husband since his diagnosis. She has had video cameras installed to monitor him during the day.
As his condition worsened, she removed all the mirrors and sharp objects from the house.
Does Lisa Raitt Have Any Children?
Former politician Lisa Raitt has two children from her first marriage to David Raitt.
Raitt was married to David Raitt from some time in the 1990s until they divorced in 2009. Their two children are both sons, and they are named John Raitt and Billy Raitt.
David Raitt is a Second City alumnus, playwright, and stay-at-home dad. Their two sons were born in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
Little is known about the Raitt children as they do not have a big online presence. This lack of online presence surely has to do with the fact that their mother used to be one of the most prominent figures in Canadian politics.
After she divorced David Raitt and married Bruce Wood, she had three step-children as Wood had three children with his first wife.
How Much Is Lisa Raitt’s Net Worth?
Former politician Lisa Raitt has an estimated net worth of $5 million as of 2022.
Coming from a coal mining family, Raitt saw her grandfather, Colin A. MacCormack, work his way up from a local coal mine to a city alderman and eventually a secretary-treasurer and a lead negotiator for the Cape Breton Railway Transportation and General Workers.
Raitt’s life and work has followed the blueprint of the trajectory that her grandfather left for her. She has dedicated much of her life to politics and, as such, has amassed quite the political resume.
However, even before politics, Raitt had a successful career. This career was as the Toronto Port Authority’s corporate secretary and general counsel.
Raitt made history by becoming the first female harbormaster in April 2001. A year later, she was appointed as president and chief executive officer of the Toronto Port Authority.
Raitt’s political career was long and successful, and surely a bulk of her net worth was amassed due to the strength of her political career.
Since her political career has ended and she became the vice hair of a large bank, Raitt surely is not lacking money and the money she needs as she is still looking after her husband.
