When Jerel got called in at the school, he had thought his daughter had gotten into trouble and nothing more. He even dismissed it when his daughter had told him that her neck hurt.
However, when Jerel saw the video footage, he was outraged.
In a Kenosha press conference, Jerel said, “She’s humiliated, she’s traumatized. Every day I gotta hear, ‘Daddy, I don’t wanna go to school.”
“It breaks me because I wasn’t there to help her,” he added. “I felt helpless.”
Jerrel Perez has said that his daughter is in therapy and seeing a neurologist for her injuries.
The school had put officer Gutschow on paid leave, but Guetschow later resigned. Nonetheless, Guetschow is still an officer in the Kenosha police department.
