A handmade bomb exploded shortly after David Perry pulled up outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Sunday morning, injuring him.
The passenger who is suspected of bringing the device into the cab died on the spot.
Mr. Perry’s wife described his escape from the truck as “an amazing miracle.”
She said on Facebook that she thought “some guardian angels” were watching over him.

Boris Johnson complimented the driver for his “incredible presence of mind and bravery,” seen on CCTV leaving the taxi as it erupted into flames.
“He is doing good but (is) painful and just trying to digest what’s occurred,” Mrs. Perry said, thanking everyone who sent them well wishes.
“There have been rumors that David was a hero for locking the passenger in the car, but the fact is that he is unquestionably lucky to be alive.”, she added.
Nothing more about his family has been known to the world.

David Perry And The Bomb Explosion Sequence
At 10:59 GMT, Merseyside Police were called to a car explosion at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
A taxi carrying one passenger, the suicide bomber picked up from the Rutland Avenue area, wanted to be brought to the hospital 10 minutes away. He then drove near the hospital and blasted the bomb shortly after.
The car erupted in flames, a man was declared dead in the scene. However, he is yet to be identified.
The head of Counter Terrorism Policin, North West believes to know the bomber’s identity, but is unable to confirm it at the moment.
According to him, the passenger looked to have created an improvised device that triggered the explosion.
Officers investigating the incident could not “at this point draw any connection” to Remembrance Sunday celebrations near the hospital, he added. Still, he acknowledged that this was “a line of inquiry.”
