Born in Veracruz, Mexico, de la Reguera became passionate about acting at a very young age. Her mother, Nena de la Reguera, was one of her influences as she was a former Miss Veracruz and a TV personality moving on from being a journalist.

de la Reguera attended the Cultural Institute of Veracruz to pursue performance arts studies, then moved to Mexico City to attend Televisa’s Center for Artistic Education and TV Aztecas’ artistic institute. She also studied under Lisa Robertson and Aaron Spicer in Los Angeles, and Juan Carlos Corzza in Spain.

In 1996, de la Reguera’s career started with an appearance in the telenovela “Azul”. This was followed by “Pueblo chico, infierno grande”, for which she won the Best Breakout Female Actress award from Heraldo. Other notable telenovelas that she was involved in early in her career included “Destino”, “Todo por Amor” – in which she won The Golden Palm Award – and “Cara o Cruz”. Her early years as an actress certainly jump-started her career and her net worth.

In 2000, de la Reguera ventured into the world of movies, and starred in the film “Dust to Dust”. It was then followed by the 2002 film “A Beautiful Secret”, and the box office hit “Ladies’ Night” in 2003. In 2006 she broke out in Hollywood, when she played Sister Encarnacion in the comedy film “Nacho Libre”, starring alongside Jack Black. Her works in movies also helped made her to become better known, and helped increase her wealth.

de la Reguera’s career reached another high when she was cast in the HBO series “Capadocia” in 2008. The story revolved around a women’s prison in Mexico and became a record-breaking show in terms of ratings around Latin America. Her film “Backyard” was another moving film, and was even nominated for an Oscar Award for Best Foreign Film.

After appearing in Nacho Libre, de la Reguera continued to participate in many Hollywood films and television series. She appeared in the movies “Cop Out” and “Cowboys & Aliens” and had recurring roles in the series “Royal Pains” and “Eastbound & Down.”

Aside from acting, de la Reguera is also a renowned product endorser, and has worked with the brands Cover Girl, Pantente, Coca-Cola and Caress among others.

Quote
1 I grew up next to the ocean, on the coast, and would dance the salsa all day, so I just learned those rhythms and knew how to move my body when I was very little.
2 I would not change anything I’ve done or what I’ve lived, and with whom I have lived it.
3 I love playing tennis. To me this is not a workout, but a fun extracurricular activity I do with friends so it doesn’t feel like I’m working out.
4 I feel like I prefer movies, but, at the same time, theater is so exciting when you’re doing it. It’s a harder job doing theater.
5 I’m weird. I’m not too focused on the physicality of a man. They just have to become my best friend, and then I start to get attracted to them. I’ve never been in a bar and just hit on a guy and started kissing him; I’ve never done that in my life.
6 I try to walk at least three times a week for 40 minutes or an hour. I do it at the gym on the treadmill, or I go hiking outside.
7 It’s easier for me to act in Spanish, but as soon as I get the lines in English and I know them by heart, it becomes really easy. You don’t have to worry about the language anymore. It just takes more time. In Spanish, I can learn lines in 10 minutes. In English, it’s going to take an hour.
Fact
1 She was one of the many people who ran with the Olympic Torch as it was taken around the UK in preparation for the London Olympics of 2012. Her run was along the A413 Wendover Road just south of Aylesbury on 9 July 2012.
