Before selecting the exterior for filming in Cleveland, director Bob Clark sent troops to cities to determine the locations. The location had been chosen mainly by Higbee’s Department Store. As a result, ice-president Bruce Campbell led the project to create attention.
The department store had featured in three backgrounds in the movie. The boyhood home of Parker shown in the movie is on Cleveland Street. The external and internal shots had filmed in the Tremont Section of the house where Ralphie lives in Cleveland’s West Side.
