Joey Votto is a 38-year-old baseball player from Toronto, Ontario. He is presently a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
In 2007, he debuted in MLB while playing for the Reds. He is the first MLB player from Canada to smash 300 home runs and accumulate 1,000 runs batted in RBIs since Larry Walker.
The six-time MLB All-Star participated in high school baseball with the Etobicoke Rangers. Later, Votto signed a national letter of intent to play baseball with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in college.
He got drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 2002 MLB Draft, with the 44th overall pick. He hit 19 home runs and 122 strikeouts while playing for the Class A-Advanced Sarasota Reds in the Florida State League in 2005.
Where Is Joey Votto Today?
According to Booby Nightengale, the beat reporter for the Cincinnati Reds, Joey Votto is currently practicing his bat.
He has recently been sidelined due to a back problem, although it does not seem to be a major one.
While Votto is out of the lineup at the first base, the Cincinnati Reds have alternated between using Brandon Drury and Mike Moustakas.
He has a deal that runs through the following year. Since the Cincinnati Reds have a $20 million option for the 2024 season, the seven-time Tip O’Neill Award winner will be in a bit of limbo.
Cincinnati will owe Votto $7M if they opt to split ways with the former MVP. So it’s a little early to declare that his Queen City career will end after the upcoming season.
Is Joey Votto Hurt?
Joey Votto, the first baseman of the Cincinnati Reds, missed his sixth straight game due to lower back discomfort.
As a result, he didn’t play in the first game of the doubleheader. He also missed Tuesday’s game because he had a “recovery day,” according to manager David Bell.
Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Votto was scratched from the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets, following back soreness.
Later, Bell disclosed that the first baseman’s absence from Wednesday’s starting lineup was because of a back problem.
He should be regarded as day-to-day for the time being; however, Donovan Solan has to get more at-bats if Votto is forced to cancel more time.
Cincinnati Reds First Baseman Joey Votto’s Injury Update
Since Monday, Joey Votto hasn’t played as he deals with a back injury. As per reports, he’s still coping with the discomfort.
Having gone hitless in his previous four games, he didn’t appear to be fully healthy just before that absence.
Friday’s starting lineup has Matt Reynolds at third and Brandon Drury at first base. At the same time, Joey stays on the sidelines in the match against the Rays.
