On Thursday, the wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman pleaded guilty to charges in the United States, acknowledging that she helped her husband manage his multibillion-dollar criminal enterprise.
For several years, the defendants knew and willfully conspired to distribute heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.
She also admitted to participating in transactions with a foreign drugs trafficker and to a money-laundering conspiracy allegation.
The drug lord was apprehended in January 2016 and extradited to the United States a year later.
Guzman was sentenced to life in prison in February 2019 after being convicted of drug trafficking, conspiracy, abduction, murder, and other counts.
