Emeli Sandé announced the release of her debut solo song in early 2011. Many tabloids speculated about which song she would release, with “Daddy” being a popular possibility. Her official debut song was “Heaven,” which was released on August 14, 2011.
The song received excellent feedback from music blogs such as This Must Be Pop and Robot Pigeon. Sandé has stated that “Daddy” will be the second official single from her upcoming album “Our Version of Events.” “Read All About It,” her collaboration with Professor Green, scored her first number-one record on the UK Singles Chart.
Sandé performed at the LG Arena in Birmingham for BRMB 2011 in November 2011. Later the following month, at the 2012 Brit Awards, she got the Critics’ Choice award.
Her debut album, “Our Version of Events,” debuted at number one in the United Kingdom in February 2012. Sandé’s songwriting abilities were highlighted in the album, which included songs she wrote herself. The album’s melodious, strong, and retro-futuristic soul-pop tracks were acclaimed by critics.
Sandé received another BRIT Award nomination in 2012, this time in the British Breakthrough Act category. She also contributed to the original Sugababes lineup by writing content for them.
Sandé played a special Q Magazine show at XOYO in London in January 2012, accompanied by British soul vocalist Michael Kiwanuka. She worked on a version of “Titanium” with David Guetta and played it with him at the NRJ Music Awards in France.
