A member of Gen Z is anyone born between 1996 and the early-mid 2000s (end date can vary depending on source). In the U.S., there are approximately 90 million members of Gen Z, or “Gen Zers.”

That is why the generations today each span 15 years with Generation Y (Millennials) born from 1980 to 1994; Generation Z from 1995 to 2009 and Generation Alpha from 2010 to 2024. So it follows that Generation Beta will be born from 2025 to 2039.

Generation Z (also known as Zoomers) encompasses those born between 1997 and 2012. Its oldest members are 24 years old, while its youngest are just 9 years old—and won’t reach adulthood until the year 2030.

Gen Z, also known as iGen, Centennials, etc., starts with those born in approximately 1996. The oldest members of this generation are now entering their 20s. Gen Z is the fastest emerging generation of employees, consumers, and trendsetters.

Helicopter parents are almost all contained in Generation X, also known as the parents of Generation Z. As to where helicopter parents came from and why they choose this form of parenting (if they even willfully did so), there are several schools of thought.

What is after Generation Z? The generation that follows Gen Z is Generation Alpha, which includes anyone born after 2010. Gen Alpha is still very young, but is on track to be the most transformative age group ever.
