Amir Locke was an African-American male who was killed on 2 February 2022 by the Minneapolis police.
Locke was sleeping on the couch of the apartment when police barged in. As per the police bodycam footage, he had a gun but he was not pointing it at anyone.
Amir was trying to sit up on the couch when he was shot and murdered. The police force used the no-knock warrant to enter the house although his name was not actually listed on it.
Locke’s murder has enraged people and they are on the streets seeking justice for him. Also, they heavily criticized the no-knock warrant which is why it is currently suspended.
What Was Amir Locke Wanted For?
Amir Locke was not wanted but the police were searching for a homicide suspect.
The homicide had occurred in the nearby place, St. Paul. The St. Paul P.D had asked the Minneapolis Police to execute the warrant on their behalf.
However, Locke was not a suspect and he did not have any past criminal records. He was a law-abiding and responsible citizen as per his family members.
The information on how police reached that particular apartment is still a mystery. The same day, Amir was a guest at the same apartment that police barged in.
Marlon Cornelis Speed is one of the tenants of the apartment where Amir was killed. Speed is a 23-year-old man who had some run-ins with the police.
Despite having a good outlook and nature, Locke became the victim of a police encounter. He did nothing wrong which is why people are seeking justice for him.

Knock And No-Knock Warrant Explained
Police officers can use two types of warrants: knock and no-knock depending upon the situation.
With a knock warrant, policemen have to knock on the door of apartments and houses and announce before going in. But it is completely opposite in the no-knock one.
It allows the officers to directly barge in without the permission of the resident or owner. No-knock is set to favor the situations where a criminal is notorious and is well-equipped with weapons.
However, a case like this of Amir has encouraged the public to criticize it. As a result, they are demanding to drop the no-knock warrant in Minneapolis.
What Were Amir Locke Charges?
Amir Locke was not charged with any crime or offenses and he had a clean police record.
Locke was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Also, it seems that the police neglected proper verification and used a no-knock warrant to their benefit.
Amir was shot by a police officer named Mark Hanneman. He is currently on administrative leave and he will be off duty until the investigation ends.
Bodycams show us almost everything the MPD told us about Amir Locke’s killing is a lie. The officers snuck into the apartment, did not announce themselves, surprised him, he did not aim a weapon at officers. The shots fired were, of course, from them. Also, he was not a suspect. pic.twitter.com/iywfBnSv4J
