Billy Crudup appeared in The Metal Children, an off-Broadway production written and directed by Adam Rapp, in 2010. Crudup received a Tony Award nomination for Featured Actor in a Play the following year for his portrayal in the Broadway revival of Arcadia.
In August 2013, he appeared alongside Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, as well as Waiting for Godot at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. The productions were eventually transported to New York City’s The Cort Theatre, where they ran in repertory until March 2014.
Crudup’s abilities go beyond acting. From 1998 through 2005, he was the narrator for Mastercard’s “Priceless” television commercial campaign in the United States.
Crudup would list the pricing of various goods and services before highlighting the intangible benefits derived from those purchases, eventually calling them “priceless.” Crudup stated in 2005 that his presence in these advertisements had a major impact on his life, providing him with the financial flexibility to pursue acting jobs.
In 2009, he demonstrated his flexibility by playing Zartan in the parody video The Ballad of G.I. Joe on the website Funny or Die.
Crudup performed the world premiere of David Cale’s one-man piece Harry Clarke at Vineyard Theatre in November 2017, before relocating to the Minetta Lane Theatre the following spring.
