Nature is so beautiful. On one side of nature, there are beautiful and good things that one wants to keep looking at them and feel, and on the other side, there are so dangerous things that people are scared of them. Two such phenomena of nature are wind and tornado.
Wind vs Tornado
The main difference between Wind and Tornado is that wind has a speed of around 10 to 12 km per hour (6 to 7 miles per hour). On the other hand, Tornado speed is around 10 to 19 miles per hour (16 to 19 km per hour). However, the speed of Wind and Tornadoes depends on various factors.
The wind is a natural phenomenon. The wind is the natural movement of air that takes place due to irregular heating of the surface of planet Earth due to the sun. The wind does not consist of much substance. The wind is intangible as you can not see or touch it but you can sense the force of the wind.
A tornado can be defined as a vertical occurring column of rapidly and violently revolving air. The winds of tornadoes may reach 250 miles an hour and can strip up pathways a mile wide and 50 miles long. Tornadoes are extensively also known as twisters. Tornadoes take place in thunderstorms.
Comparison Table Between Wind and Tornado
What is Wind?
Wind helps human beings in numerous various ways such as frying up your clothes in summers and freezing you to bone in the winter season. The wind is very capable of carrying sailing ships throughout the ocean and tearing up big trees from the ground. The wind is considered to be one of the biggest equalizers of transporting heat, moisture, pollutants, and dust huge interspaces around the whole globe.
Aeolian landforms, impacts, and processes are known as the landforms, impacts, and processes of wind. Distinctions in the pressure of the atmosphere lead to the creation of winds. The typical flow of the winds generally takes place from high pressure to low pressure. Our planet, Earth, is majorly constituted of giving main wind zones, namely, Westerlies, Horse altitudes, Trade Winds, the doldrums, and polar Easterlies.
Winds that travel at distinct speeds, distinct altitudes, and over the surface of land or water may lead to distinct types of storms and patterns. The wind is one of the major means of transportation for insects, birds, and seeds that can migrate through the currents of winds for thousands and millions of miles.
What is Tornado?
Gigantic, tenacious, and determined thunderstorms called supercells breed the most devastating tornadoes. The formation of these devastating and violent storms takes place around the whole world. However, the United States of America is the main hotspot of this destructive phenomenon on Earth.
The United States of America reports around a thousand tornadoes every year. Tornadoes are often also known as whirlwinds and cyclones. A major amount of tornadoes has wind speed less than 180 km per hour (110 mile speed hour). Tornadoes are about 250 feet (80 m) across and roam around for several kilometers before their disappearing takes place. Wind speeds of about 300 miles per hour (480 km per hour) can be achieved by the most devastating tornadoes.
The diameter of these tornadoes would be greater than 3 km or 2 miles and exists on the land for more than hundreds of kilometers and dozens of miles. Tornadoes are often generated in tropical regions that are situated near the Equator and are less frequent at high latitudes. Tornadoes majorly occur in the summer and spring seasons. However, tornadoes can even generate at any time of the year. Tornadoes can also be considered as one of the most extreme natural phenomena of planet Earth.
Main Differences Between Wind and Tornado
- The wind is mainly soft blowing while Tornado is always a strong column of winds.
- Winds don’t lead to any destruction of life and property while Tornado leads to the destruction of life and property.
- The wind blows everywhere while the major formations of tornadoes take place in the United States of America.
- The wind was first discovered in 5000 B.C. While the first Tornado was seen in July 1643.
- The wind has a lot of benefits like its acts as means of transportation for seeds, birds, insects, and many others while Tornado has only sole benefit i.e. it would lead to rain if the area needs rain.
Conclusion
Both of the terms, wind, and tornado share a huge difference. While the wind is always soft and soothing, the tornado is always strong and dangerous. Winds help an individual in many ways such as drying clothes, getting a soothing feeling, and many more. On the other hand, tornado always tends to cause destruction and does not provide any help to people, not even animals or things. Strong blowy winds can result in the formation of a tornado. Tornadoes are much more prominent in the regions of the United States of America.
