Otoniel, also known as Dairo Antonio Usuga, is the head of the Clan del Golfo, or Gulf Clan, a drug-trafficking group.
Colombian soldiers arrested him in Uraba, in northern Antioquia province, bringing an end to six-year police and military search through towns and forests along the Panamanian border.
As per President Ivan Duque, his arrest came after ‘Operation Osiris,’ which was methodically planned and carried out by the police, army, Marine Corps, and air force.
Soon after Otoniel’s detention, the authorities published images of him.
Sending cocaine shipments to the United States, assassinating police officers and community leaders, extortion, illegal mining, and child recruitment are just some of the allegations that Ontoniel faces.
In 2009, he was also charged with drug-related felonies by a US court, and he is currently facing extradition procedures.
