Rossdale engaged in a range of individual endeavors. His song “Can’t Stop the World” served as the Drive television series’ theme tune. He covered John Lennon’s “Mind Games” for the CD Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur in 2007.
On June 3, 2008, Rossdale released his debut solo album, Wanderlust. Notably, Shirley Manson, Katy Perry, and Dave Stewart all contributed vocals to the album’s song “Can’t Stop the World,” which also has backing vocals from his ex-wife Gwen Stefani. Chris Traynor, a guitarist who played with Institute and Bush, also contributed to the CD.
As a co-writer and guest performer on the song “Falling” for the DT8 Project album Perfect World, Rossdale made a contribution. On April 1, 2008, the first track from Wanderlust, “Love Remains The Same,” became downloadable digitally.
It was Rossdale’s first Top 40 hit since his tenure with Bush, and it peaked at Number 27 in October 2008 on the Billboard Hot 100. He embarked on an independent tour in the spring of 2009. Rossdale thought the album’s title, Wanderlust, was enticing, potent, and representative of his love of music, singing, and performing.
