What Is Billy Mitchell’s Net Worth? Details on His Finances

Billy Mitchell is an American restaurateur and gamer who has a net worth of $1 million as of 2022.

He is best known for being a gaming champion and rose to prominence in the 1980s when Life, a veritable magazine, added him to a photo of video game champions. The reason why he became popular was that this was back in the golden age of arcade games.

He became even more famous in 1999 when he became the first to claim to have a perfect score in the arcade game Pac-Man, with a score of 3,333,360.

His achievements were recorded and recognized by the Guinness World Records and Twin Galaxies as he received a perfect score in Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.

He has since appeared in several documentaries on retrogaming and competitive gaming. The 2007 documentary, The King of Kong, was the most popular of these documentaries.

Billy Mitchell’s Net Worth In 2022

Celebrated video game player Billy Mitchell’s net worth is approximately $1 million.

The bulk of his wealth comes from his restaurant chain called Rickey’s World Famous Restaurant, which exists in Hollywood, Florida, and Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The restaurant chain is popular for selling Rickey’s World Famous Hot Sauce. The restaurant has been in Mitchell’s family for a long while and was established in 1955 on Hollywood Boulevard.

During its initial time, the Boulevard was simply a dirt road.  The restaurant was bought by Billy’s parents, William and Barbara Mitchell, in 1974, soon after they moved to Florida from Massachusetts with their five children.

The restaurant was initially famous for serving cold sandwiches and hamburgers.

However, in 1978, Barbara had the idea of coming up with a hot sauce recipe. That hot sauce has since become the most popular aspect of the restaurant and is used on their signature wings.

The hot sauce and the wings are now the restaurant’s biggest draws to the point that their website URL is rickeys wings.

Since 1996, they have also started serving twin Maine lobsters, which have become one of their signature dishes, as it is the cheapest lobster in town.

The restaurant has many things that have made it a curious Floridian landmark. It has no windows, and one of the reasons why is due to the fact that the owners intended the restaurant to be an escape for their customers to enjoy good food and drinks without having to think about the world outside.

With over fifty years of operations, the restaurant is a huge success and has lined up Mitchell’s pockets well.

Billy Mitchell’s Career Earnings

Aside from his restaurant business, Billy Mitchell has earned a pretty penny from his gaming career.

He has also earned a lot of money from the many documentaries that have been made about his gaming career. He started his gaming career with Donkey Kong because everyone kept standing around the game, and he wanted the same attention.

A friendly rivalry with a classmate over Donkey Kong and Pac-Man spurred his initial gaming career.

While playing, he wondered if Donkey Kong had a world record and so he reached out to Twin Galaxies to find out, and Walter Day told him the world record was 1.4 million by Steve Sanders.

Due to Mitchell’s spurring, in November 1982, Life had Mitchell, Sanders, and various gamers come for a photoshoot.

Mitchell then challenged Sanders to Donkey Kong and showed that the game had an impassable kill screen after reaching level 22.  He eventually beat Sanders and set a high score of 874,300. Sanders then admitted that he had lied about the previous score and gave the record to Billy Mitchell, who held it for over 18 years.

He continued his video game career until 1985 and retired to focus on his family’s restaurant.

He briefly returned to gaming in 2004 when he achieved a new Donkey Kong score of 933,900 in front of multiple witnesses at the Midwest Gaming Classic.

Billy Mitchell Is A Gamer

Controversies surrounding Billy Micthell’s video game career started occurring in 2017.

A moderator for Donkey Kong Forums, Jeremy Young, expressed some concern over a video posted online of Mitchell’s score. He saw some discrepancies and found that the scores were achieved in MAME hardware than actual hardware, which made winning easy.

Mitchell, however, disputed the claims and stated that he doesn’t even know what MAME is and does not play on it.

Twin Galaxies then launched an investigation and found that Mitchell had used an emulator, as Young had stated, and removed his records.

Mitchell threatened to sue Twin Galaxies and Guinness if they did not reinstate his records. Guinness has since reinstated his records, but he is currently caught in a legal battle with Twin Galaxies over his records and whether to reinstate them.
