What happens after pid treatment

Pain from PID usually lasts less than 7 days. If pain lasts longer than 3 weeks, the likelihood that the patient has PID declines substantially.

Even after treatment, PID can come back. This could happen if you’re infected by another STI. And once you’ve had PID, bacteria that are normally harmless may be more likely to infect your upper private parts tract. This means you could get PID again even without getting another STI.

Most women get enceinte between 12 months and 14 months after the procedure. If your PID was mild, you may get enceinte even sooner .

Prompt treatment with medicine can get rid of the infection that causes pelvic inflammatory disease. But there’s no way to reverse any scarring or damage to the reproductive tract that PID might have caused. Treatment for PID most often includes: Antibiotics.

Assessing damage

If your doctor determines that you have pelvic inflammatory disease, they may run more tests and check your pelvic area for damage. PID can cause scarring on your fallopian tubes and permanent damage to your reproductive organs. Additional tests include: Pelvic ultrasound.

If the infection is not treated, it could spread to other parts of your body or create an abscess in the fallopian tubes or ovaries. It might cause chronic (long lasting) pelvic pain. PID can cause scarring of the fallopian tubes. This scarring could make it hard for you to get enceinte.

Ultrasound has been recommended as an effective modality for accurate and timely pelvic inflammatory disease diagnosis by a 2017 Medscape review.

Repeated episodes of PID

The condition can return if the initial infection isn’t entirely cleared. This is often because the course of antibiotics wasn’t completed or because a sexual partner wasn’t tested and treated.

Guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend outpatient treatment of PID with ofloxacin, levofloxacin, ceftriaxone plus doxycycline, or cefoxitin and probenecid plus doxycycline, all with optional metronidazole for full coverage against anaerobes and bacterial vaginosis (table 1) [13].

As the infection spreads to the cells of the uterus, it can lead to problems with menstruation. The Office on Women’s Health lists irregular menstrual cycles (like late periods) as one of the symptoms of PID. There are other symptoms associated with it too, like pelvic pain, fever, and pain during relationship.

Conclusion: PID in virgin women is rare, but it should be considered in all women with abdominal pain, regardless of sexual history.
