Former Pipe Master and renowned Hawaiian enforcer Johnny Boy Gomes has been charged with third degree assault after an incident at Waikiki Beach. Police said Gomes got into an argument with a 56-year-old man around 11am Thursday. The dispute became physical and culminated with Gomes holding the man’s head under water.

After surviving a lengthy coma, Sunny eventually regained consciousness and underwent daily therapy sessions. A September message from his family read: A long overdue update on Sunny. We are taking one day at a time and celebrating each little triumph.

It’s been several months since the surfing world was last updated on the condition of legendary surfer Sunny Garcia, and his daughter Kaila has finally revealed why. The 50-year-old made an attempt on his own life in April 2019 which left him in a coma.

Garcia is of Filipino, Hawaiian, Chinese, Irish, and Native American descent. Vincent “Sunny” Garcia started surfing at the age of seven. The nickname – Sunny – was given to him by his mother after his cheerful personality as a young child.
