Raybe Oh Siew Huey was severely burned after trying to save her boyfriend from a burning car in an accident in Tanjong Pagar last year.
Raybe Oh Siew Huey burned around 80% of her body on February 13 of this year while attempting to rescue her 29-year-old fiance, Mr. Jonathan Long. The BMW M4 had collided with a Tanjong Pagar shophouse.
Ms Oh had 80 percent of her body burned, underwent 32 operations, survived pneumonia, and is now full of new and positive energy.
What Happened To Raybe Oh Siew Huey?
Raybe Oh Siew Huey suffered severe burns to approximately 80% of her body while attempting to rescue her fiance, Mr. Jonathan Long from the accident.
Her husband and four friends were in a burning car after it crashed into a shophouse in Tanjong Pagar at around 5.40 a.m. on Feb 13, 2021.
Mr. Long, the driver, and four other people in the car were killed in the crash. They are Mr. Eugene Yap, 29; Mr. Elvin Tan Yong Hao, 28; Mr. Wilson Teo Qi Xiang, 26; and Mr. Gary Wong Hong Chieh, 29.
Ms Oh was transported to SGH and admitted to the intensive care unit. After a little more than a week, her health stabilized and she was transferred to a high dependency unit.
She was diagnosed with life-threatening pneumonia and had to be intubated, leaving her unable to speak, drink, or eat for six days in the ICU.
Ms. Oh Siew subsequently spent months enduring 32 surgeries to clean her wounds and transplant skin patches all over her body.
Following the incident, the Shin Min Daily News stated that she had contacted some of her friends via social media.
Those who talked to the Chinese evening daily, including getai performer Komei Foong, said Ms. Oh had maintained her optimistic attitude. But needed time and space to recuperate.
Ms. Oh is currently receiving rehabilitation, skin grafting, and physical therapy, according to Mr. Long’s father.
Ms. Oh is a former air stewardess and getai performer, unfortunately, her respiratory tract was harmed and she no longer has the lung capacity to sing.
She never regretted trying to save her fiance, and she indicated that her ties with her family and Mr. Long’s family had become better as a result of the accident.

Raybe Oh Siew Huey and her boyfriend Mr. Jonathan Long were involved in an accident at Tanjong Pagar with four of their friends. A video of the crash shows Ms. Oh sprinting to the burning car in an attempt to save the guys.
She is then seen rushing away from the fire, wrapped in flames, towards the shophouses across the street.
Ms. Oh share her recovery story for the first time on camera and wished that it may inspire other to be tough. She stated in her interview with CNA that she had been hospitalized for four months and was laying on the bed.
She was severely damaged and couldn’t even turn her body.
Ms. Oh recalls her recuperation as difficult, with a focus on the agony she experienced following each surgery, particularly the laser and physiotherapy.
However, she claims that the experience has been made tolerable by the overwhelming support of her and her boyfriend’s families.
But the incident has also affected her life significantly. She stated that she was an energetic girl who worked out frequently, but after an accident, she lost a lot of muscle mass, preventing her from working out as much as she used to.
She still has to protect her skin from the sun since the temperature in Singapore is too hot and humid.
Finally, she expressed a desire to return to her first love, singing. She hopes to rebuild her lung capacity and eventually return to singing.
She wants to show the world that people can do anything if they are dedicated, focused, and disciplined. She also advised her viewers to remain hopeful and to focus on what they had rather than what they had lost.
