What Happened To Matthew Berry Of ESPN? Fantasy Football Face Joins NBC Sports As Analyst

Matthew Berry is a writer, fantasy sports analyst, and television personality who began his career writing for television and film, as well as co-creating a few pilots and film scripts with his writing partner Eric Abrams.

Matthew founded his own fantasy sports websites “TalentedMr.Roto.com” and “Rotopass.com” in 2004 after writing for Rotoworld on the side.

The television personality worked at ESPN as a “Senior Fantasy Sports Analyst” from 2007 to 2022.

What Happened To Matthew Berry Of ESPN?

ESPN’s fantasy football offerings will be significantly altered for the 2022 NFL season. The most notable change is that fantasy football owners will no longer be able to find Matthew Berry’s analysis on the network’s website or any of its digital platforms.

Matthew announced his departure from ESPN on Monday via Twitter. The long-time face of fantasy football at the world’s largest sports network announced his departure from ESPN at the end of the week.

The television personality’s announcement did not include any details about his departure.

Berry admitted that he “thought he’d never write” that he was leaving ESPN and used his tweet to thank the many people who had supported him over the course of his 15-year tenure with the company.

“ESPN provided me with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to write and discuss fantasy sports on every ESPN platform,” the fantasy sports analyst wrote on Twitter.

Matthew Berry Love/Hate Fantasy Football Analysis

Matthew Berry wrote a number of larger fantasy articles for ESPN’s Fantasy Football Draft Kit each year. The first is “100 Facts,” which appears in ESPN The Magazine as well as on ESPN.com. The second is the “Draft Day Manifesto.”

His pre-draft Love/Hate comes in third. Love/Hate focuses on players Berry believes are being over or under-drafted.

The fantasy sports analyst frequently highlights that players on his “Hate” list are not those he believes will perform poorly, but rather those who are drafted too high or started too frequently.

A typical first-rounder on the “Hate” list might be assumed by Matthew to deserve to go about five spots lower than usual, whereas later-round players on the “Love” list are players Matthew would draft a round or two higher than anticipated.

In the football articles, the writer names the players he thinks are significantly better than the other ESPN rankers for that week (i.e., ‘Love’) and the guys he thinks are significantly worse than the other ESPN rankers for that week (i.e., ‘Hate’).
