What happened to Matt Taibbi?

In 2019, he launched the podcast, Useful Idiots, co-hosted by Katie Halper. In 2020, he began self-publishing his online writing on Substack. In recent years, Taibbi’s writing has focused on culture war issues and cancel culture.

Taibbi, in 2014, shortly departed Rolling Stone to run Racket, an investigative magazine published by the billionaire Pierre Omidyar but a clash with the administration led to his return to Rolling Stone.

In April 2020, Taibbi declared he would no longer publicize his online writing via Rolling Stone and would hereafter publish his online writing independently through the email newsletter service Substack. There were the tricks that predicted Taibbi’s later attitudes toward the respective press.

His podcast, Useful Idiots, was still affiliated with the magazine in 2021; then, it was not. The causes are bound up with Taibbi’s public disillusionment with the industry.
