What Happened To Kazuki Takahashi? Manga Creator Passed Away

Kazuki Takahashi, a versatile Japanese manga artist, is renowned for creating Yu-Gi-Oh!; formerly a manga series and later adapted into anime series, a trading card game, and a plethora of video games.

Born in 1961, Takahashi initially commenced his work in the field with the on-shot creation of Tokio no Taka which was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1990. He went on to publish his work in volumes after that but seems like he was not satisfied with his creations then.

He quoted all his early works as “total flops” in an interview with Time for Kids in 2002.

It was not until 1996 that Yu-Gi-Oh! was released which garnered a peak of attention and brought Takahashi to the limelight. Though the manga series ended in 2004, its adaptation to other media franchises lasted long and was lionized still until 2020.

The creation even proved to be a competent rival against the popular Pokemon franchise.

He went on to publish additional mangas, namely, Drump (2013), The Comiq (2018), and Secret Reverse (2019) subsequently, and even created video games of his works. Not to anyone’s surprise, he brought home the Inkpot award (2015) from Comic-Con International for his stature in the comic industry.

He was also nominated for the reputed Animayo: The International Film Festival of Animation, Visual Effects and Video Games in 2013 in the category of Audience Award and Best Visual Effects.

While his works and contributions will be spoken about come what may, the desolating news of his sudden death has left his fans and the world at a loss of words.
