On Monday, she was transported into urgent care at Galway University Hospital after being treated on the pitch but sadly died on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Councilor Albert Dolan, the revelation has been a massive shock to the community who attended primary and secondary school with Kate.
“I don’t think there are any words to explain how dreadful this must be for Kate’s family,” he told Galway Beo.
Councillor Shelly Quinn went on to say that the community of Athenry is very grieved by the news.
