Julius Jones has spent the past two decades battling for his life on death row, but his final appeal was denied on Friday by a federal appeals court.
Unless the Oklahoma governor grants him clemency, Jones will be executed this week on his scheduled execution date of November 18.
In September, the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board recommended to Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt that Jones’ sentence be commuted to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
The decision is still up to Stitt, who stated in a news release in September that he will decide based on the clemency hearing.

What Happened To Julius Jones: Death Row And Execution Update
On Thursday, the state of Oklahoma will put Julius Jones to death.
Mr Jones’s family and allies have been lobbying Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt to commute the man’s sentence to life in prison.
However, despite that, Mr Stitt has not indicated that he is considering a reversal.
Mr Stitt now faces worldwide pressure after receiving a letter from the European Union’s ambassador to the United States begging him to postpone the execution.

Julius Jones Age Details
Julius Jones, 41, has spent more than half of his life in prison after being accused and convicted of the 1999 carjacking murder of Paul Howell.
Jones has maintained his innocence, claiming that he was falsely accused by his then-friend and co-defendant, who allegedly shot Mr Howell.
Jones is scheduled to die via lethal injection at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester unless Stitt intervenes.
He was found guilty of killing Paul Howell of Edmond in front of his two young daughters and sister in 1999. After being shot, Howell’s vehicle was stolen, and he was run over by it.
