What Happened To Jakub Vrana? Player Assistance Program NHL Update

Jakub Vrana, a forward with the Detroit Red Wings, has been added to the player assistance program run by the NHL and NHLPA.

Vrána made his Elitserien debut while playing for Linköping HC in the 2012–13 season. At the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the Washington Capitals selected Vrána in the first round with the 13th overall pick. The same year, he attended the Capitals development camp and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the team. Later in 2018, he helped the team win the Stanley Cup.

Vrána was transferred to the Detroit Red Wings on April 12, 2021, along with Richard Pánik, a 2021 first-round selection and a 2022 second-round pick, in exchange for Anthony Mantha.

What Happened To Jakub Vrana?

According to thenationupdate, Jakub Vrána was dismissed from the Detroit team, where he was scheduled to spend the third year of his career.

The club also provided a statement on the subject, and it can be inferred from it that the Czech striker is dealing with a circumstance that necessitated the assistance of the NHL and NHLPA special programs.

On Wednesday, the league’s governing bodies issued a joint statement updating Vrana’s situation as he undergoes their procedures, which are intended to assist players with various issues, from mental health to substance addiction.

According to the NHL and union, Vrana will be sidelined for an “indefinite period” while obtaining the appropriate therapy.

Jakub Vrana Has Been Enrolled To Player Assistance Program

NHLPA and NHL confirmed that Detroit wings forward Jakub Vrana will be out of commission indefinitely while receiving care in the Player Assistance Program.

The NHL’s top brass offered their opinions on what was happening with the Czech player. Under the guidelines of the joint program, Vrana will continue to be paid while receiving therapy. When the program’s administrators let him skate on the ice, he will return to the club.

Coach Derek Lalonde also mentioned that Vrana had missed both Detroit’s game on Monday and Tuesday’s practice session for “personal reasons.”

While Lalonde did not provide a timetable regarding the potential return of Jakub to the lineup, he has been taken off the Red Wings’ online roster for now. It is a sign that the team would probably replace him before Friday’s matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Is Jakub Vrana Involved In Drug Case?

After Vrana was enrolled in the player assistance program run by the NHL and NHLPA, several rumors began to circulate.

Many people are seeking a plausible justification for his participation in the program, with some speculating that he may have been connected with drugs.

Well, the NHL and NHLPA announced on Wednesday that Vrana had been admitted into their program, albeit they did not provide a reason for his admission.

As of now, there are no confirmations about any substance consumption matters regarding Jakub, so any rumors are baseless accusations against the player at the moment. People are suggested not to follow or promote such assumptions and patiently wait for official explanations from the team.

The 26-year-old Vrana contributed a goal and an assist to the victory over New Jersey on Saturday. His absence from a home game against the Los Angeles Kings was cited as a personal matter by the team two days later.

What Is Player Assistance Program?

The Player Assistance Program is intended to help participants cope with various problems, from substance misuse to mental health.

In 1996, the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program was established to assist NHL players and their families overcome issues with drug addiction, mental illness, and other personal difficulties.

Furthermore, Jakub Vrana is doing the same program that Cary Price, and Connor Ingram used last season. Cary Price and Connor Ingram both spoke about their transitions in a shorter period.

Price announced in a statement issued by his team, the Montreal Canadiens, that over the previous several years, he had driven himself into some dark places and lacked the resources to handle the challenge. So, he decided to check into a drug rehab center last month.
